Turbulent Typhoons
Tournaments and Awards
FLL Regional Challenge
All four Blendon teams attended the Columbus State Community College FLL Regional Challenge on December 13, 2008. While all our four teams did well, the Turbulent Typhoons received the FLL Core Values Regional Ambassador Award and with it an invitation to attend the State Championship. We received the 2nd Place Trophy for Robot Design and our coaches Dr. Holland and Mr. Harrah received the Coachs Award as well. Being the FLL Regional Ambassadors, our team will serve the Columbus region for one year. We will be visiting schools, helping new teams, and helping at competitions. If you have any questions about our team or need help, you can contact us in the forum or by email.
FLL State Championship
The Turbulent Typhoons received the prestigious State of Ohio FLL Core Values Ambassador Award, at the 2009 FLL State Championship held in Dayton, on February 14-15, 2009. As Ohio Ambassadors for one year, our new mission now includes outreach to communities all across the State. We will assist in growing and sustaining the fundamental cornerstones of the FLL Program and encourage an increase interest in science and technology. Our responsibilities include mentoring new teams as they build the foundations of teamwork, assisting in tournaments, and demonstrating robotics at science/technology fairs as needed. As FLL Core Values Ambassadors, we were invited to represent Ohio at the World Festival in Atlanta. Adding to our excitement at the State Championship, we received the 2nd Place Trophy for Quality Design.
FLL World Championship
The Turbulent Typhoons forged strong connections at the 2009 FLL World Festival, Climate Connections, in Atlanta, Georgia, The event was held in conjunction with the FIRST Championship at the Georgia Dome and Georgia World Congress Center, April 15-18, 2009. We joined with other FLL teams from around the world to celebrate the exciting things that were accomplished throughout the FLL season. There, we had a booth with artifacts highlighting Ohio, its cities and regions. We provided items to trade with the other teams, as they visited our booth. Competing in all aspects of the World Festival event, our team efforts were judged in the four categories of Research, Technical Knowledge, Robotic Design and Performance, and Teamwork. We received the Second Place Trophy for Excellent Teamwork reflected in Clear Roles and Responsibilities, Problem-Solving and Team Dynamics, Gracious Professionalism, Confidence and Enthusiasm, and FLL Core Values. We were quite pleased for this recognition, especially after witnessing the quality of work from all the teams across the globe and the United States.
